We are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between The Tonga Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TCCI) and Ministry of Trade & Economic Development ( MTED). This took place at the Trade Week hosted by MTED that ran for 4 days from 25 August 2021. Both TCCI and MTED have similar interests to strengthen the cooperation between government and private Sector.
This was signed by TCCI President Mr Paula Taumoepeau and MTED CEO Mrs Distaquaine Pele Tuihalamaka. The MOU establishes the terms and understanding for this collaboration. Four Consultative platforms have been agreed upon; Private – Public Dialogue through ad-hoc meetings for discussing economic issues, Sectoral Private- Public Consultive meetings comprising of sector organisations and government departments, an annual National Consultative Conference and a biennial National Economic Summit. These will create a conducive environment for effective communication between the private sector and MTED and will support growth and sustained economic development of the Private Sector. The consultive process will also create lasting solutions in areas of policy, legal framework and implementation. TCCI would like to thank the Minister and CEO of the Ministry of Trade & Economic Development for prioritising the completion of our MOU. Tonga Chamber has no doubt this MOU will drive the development of a more efficient and effective environment for Tongan businesses large to small, micro, formal to informal to grow and prosper. |
